Ensuring that the city of New York is adequately represented on the global fashion stage, DKNY watches have been at the center of the fashion watch industry for multiple decades. Utilizing the trade’s most creative minds, DKNY continually innovates what people want, expect and require in a watch collection that can fit any occasion. Whether it’s a button-down and photographer’s pants or a formal cocktail dress and heels, Donna Karan has the correct timepiece for every one of your fashion decisions.
On-the-go, diverse and cool, DKNY watches represent the liveliness and drive of New York City. It has a wide variety of styles for the office, sports and nightlife.
An offshoot of the famous Anne Klein brand, Donna Karan brought her personalized touch to a new company when she launched her own fashion line in the mid-1980s under her “Seven Easy Pieces” philosophy.
As head designer of the ladies’ clothing giant Anne Klein in 1984, Karan and her now deceased husband Stephan Weiss launched their own clothing enterprise called Donna Karan New York, better known as DKNY in future years. Karan’s hypothesis that complete wardrobes could be crafted with the interchangeability of just a few parts of each individual outfit was what the line was based on. This Seven Easy Pieces belief not only includes tops, pants and skirts, but accessories including watches as well.
With the blessing of the parent Anne Klein company Takihyo LLC, Donna Karan New York released its first collection for women in 1985. Just six short years later, Karan introduced her first men’s line, too. After seeing her daughter grow up in a generation that craved something different in its lifestyle, Karan began the DKNY sister brand in 1989. All of the pieces involved—including watches—were inspired by the ever-changing progressive lifestyle of living and working in The Big Apple.
The fashion-conscious and trendy professional woman is the most likely patron of the DKNY watch line, but because the collection was designed to fit a wide range of lifestyles and occasions, you’ll see DKNY everywhere. After the launch of men’s watches in 1992, even guys are getting in on the act of showing their sophisticated fashion sense as well. The wristwatch is definitely one of Karan’s seven easy pieces, so women who head to the board room in the morning can switch out their timepieces for more fun ones when they go out at night. And guys wearing regal stainless bracelet models to their morning meetings can easily strap on leather-strapped watches for the ballgame later.
After becoming its own publicly traded company in 1996, DKNY was acquired by worldwide fashion magnate Louis Vuitton in 2001. But that has not stopped DKNY from being inspired by New York in every single watch it continues to produce. The boldness and the tempo of The Five Boroughs are captured within elegant cases encapsulating trendy dials with hip designs. DKNY watches make excellent additions to any watch collection, be they for men or for women. If it’s good enough for Louis Vuitton, certainly you have room for a DKNY, right?
